Wigan 0-1 Manchester City – Match Highlights (Premier League)

Edin Dzeko ended his long scoring drought as Manchester City restored their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League courtesy of a 1-0 win over bottom club Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Dzeko headed home from a David Silva free-kick after 22 minutes to settle a contest that was rather too tense for the liking of City manager Roberto Mancini, who at least saw his side end a run of four away games without a victory in the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero could have settled City’s nerves after 56 minutes with what would arguably have been the goal of the season but Dzeko bizarrely opted to take the ball off the toes of his bemused team-mate just before the Argentina striker finished off a brilliant run that took him past three men.

Wigan refused to be battered as many teams have at the hands of City this season and played their part in providing a tense finish to the evening, even if Maynor Figueroa risked a dismissal, and infuriated Mancini by remaining on the pitch, when handballing to prevent Aguero from racing through on goal.

City made a string of defensive substitutions to contain Wigan and did enough to claim the victory that takes them three points clear of United and leaves their opponents one point adrift at the wrong end of the table.
