Emile Heskey Quits International Football
Emile Heskey has retired from international football after 11 years in the England team, following a disappointing World Cup.
The 32-year-old won 62 caps, scoring seven goals, and featured in all four of England’s matches in South Africa.
Heskey started against USA and Algeria, but found himself dropped to the bench against Slovenia, when his replacement Jermain Defoe scored the only goal.
The Aston Villa striker made his final appearance as a late substitute against Germany, when England were already 4-1 down, a move by Fabio Capello widely derided in light of Heskey’s modest goalscoring record.
