Shay Given : It Is Good That Joe Hart Did Not Play For England

Shay Given says Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will benefit from his non-playing England World Cup experience.

City keeper Given, 34, saw Scott Carson’s England hopes KO’d after he cocked up against Croatia at Wembley.

Hart, 23, is No 2 at City and was snubbed by boss Capello in favour of David James when Rob Green blundered against USA.

Given said: “Joe might not thank me for saying it but if he made the mistake Rob did the backlash would have been heavy.

“For such a young guy it could have hampered the rest of his career.

“It was the right decision not to play Joe but he will be England’s keeper in future tournaments.”
