North Korea Striker Jong Tae-Se Promises A “Goal A Game”

North Korea striker Jong Tae-Se has high expectations for the World Cup, promising to score a “goal a game”, despite his nation being the tournament’s biggest underdogs.

North Korea will play in Group G – the so-called “Group of Death” – alongside Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal, with Kim Jong-Hun’s side widely predicted to finish bottom of the standings.

But Jong, who has been dubbed the “People’s Wayne Rooney” by the Asian media, is confident that he can score the goals that will help North Korea surprise the world and progress to the World Cup knockout stages.

“I will keep my promise of scoring one goal per game,” Jong told South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo. “In our group it will be Brazil and North Korea who will advance.”

Jong scored both goals in his country’s 2-2 draw with Greece in a recent warm-up game, and will need to be on top form if North Korea are to avoid being World Cup whipping boys in their first appearance since a shock run to the quarter-finals in 1966.
